Esaunggul.ac.id, In an effort to support sustainable development and community welfare, Universitas Esa Unggul (UEU) carried out a Community Service (PKM) activity themed “Downstreaming Eco Enzyme Products as a Household-Based Economic Industry” in RW 11 East Pamulang, Pamulang District, South Tangerang.

This activity was led by a team of UEU lecturers, Dr. Titta Novianti, M.Biomed, and Seprianto, M.Si, with a primary focus on empowering retired communities through training in the production of eco enzymes from vegetable and fruit waste. This program was motivated by two important issues in the community: the decline in activities and income among retirees, and the increase in the volume of household organic waste that impacts the environment.

From Organic Waste to Economically Valuable Products

The training was conducted in a one-day classroom setting, followed by three months of mentoring for the fermentation process. During the activity, the community was taught how to process organic waste using brown sugar as a fermentation agent to produce eco enzyme liquid, which has many benefits, including as a floor cleaner, dishwashing liquid, natural disinfectant, and liquid organic fertilizer (biofertilizer).

Each participant successfully produced 1.5 to 5 liters of eco enzyme solution, which was then packaged in bottles and ready for use or sale. This process not only taught technical skills but also raised awareness of the importance of protecting the environment through household waste management.

From Training to Digital Marketing

In addition to technical aspects, participants also received entrepreneurship training in the form of digital marketing strategies, simple advertising, determining production costs and selling prices, and managing household financial reports. This approach helps the community understand how the products they produce can have selling value and be managed sustainably.

The eco enzyme products from the training have even been developed into ready-to-use derivative products such as hand sanitizer, dish soap, and natural shampoo. The sales of these products are expected to be an additional source of income for retirees, as well as a solution to reduce organic waste in the surrounding environment.

The Realization of SDGs

This program is in line with Universitas Esa Unggul commitment to supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. Through this activity, UEU demonstrates that higher education has a strategic role in bridging knowledge, community empowerment, and environmental sustainability.

“Through this training, we want to instill awareness that simple activities such as processing household waste can provide double benefits for the family economy and for the environment,” said Dr. Titta Novianti.
