Universitas Esa Unggul Builds an Emergency Response Generation Through First Aid Training and Application in RW 01 Kramat Senen

Esaunggul.ac.id, Universitas Esa Unggul, through its team of lecturers, carried out a Community Service (PKM) activity themed “Building an Emergency Response Generation through the Integration of First Aid Training and Application” in RW 01 Kramat Senen, Central Jakarta. This program is a concrete step taken by the university to strengthen community preparedness for various emergency situations, such as cardiac arrest, fainting, burns, fires, and floods, which have the potential to occur in this densely populated area.
With a population of more than 4,000 people, RW 01 Kramat Senen is a strategic location for the implementation of a community-based training model. The program, which will run for four days with five mentoring sessions until November 2024, targets mosque youth, posyandu cadres, and posbindu cadres. Participants receive Emergency Medical System (EMS) training combined with the use of a first aid app as a digital innovation to speed up response times in emergency situations.
Training participants are equipped with practical skills ranging from handling victims of fainting and cardiac arrest, controlling bleeding, treating burns, to evacuation procedures in fires and floods. Additionally, participants are part of an emergency response WhatsApp group that serves as a platform for rapid communication, mentoring, and sharing information related to basic medical treatment in their environment.
The results of the activity showed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge and skills in providing first aid, as well as increased public awareness of the importance of disaster preparedness. This program was also considered successful in integrating a digital approach into community-based disaster education.
The Rector of Universitas Esa Unggul, Dr. Ir. Arief Kusuma Among Praja, S.T., M.B.A., IPU, ASEAN Eng., expressed his appreciation for the initiative of the community service team.
“This program is a tangible manifestation of Universitas Esa Unggul’s contribution to creating a resilient community that is prepared to face emergency situations. The integration of training with first aid application technology shows how digital innovation can strengthen the community’s role in maintaining safety in their environment,” said the rector.
He added that activities like this are in line with Universitas Esa Unggul’s vision as an innovative campus that is globally competitive and has a social impact through the application of knowledge and technology that provides solutions.
“We want to ensure that the knowledge developed on campus does not stop in the lecture hall, but is truly present and beneficial to the wider community,” he added.
Moving forward, the implementation team plans to continue this program to the next stage by involving more community members, such as neighborhood association leaders, PKK cadres, and youth organizations. The hope is that this activity can become a national model for community empowerment in emergency response that can be replicated in various high-risk areas across Indonesia.
