Esaunggul.ac.id, Universitas Esa Unggul (UEU), through its Community Service (PKM) lecturer team, implemented an education and training program themed “Enhancing the Capacity of Posyandu Mawar II Teluk Pucung Cadres in Clean Water and Household Waste Management”. This program was held to raise awareness and improve the skills of the community, especially the mothers who are members of the Mawar II Teluk Pucung Posyandu, in managing environmental resources that are very important for health and quality of life.

Based on an initial survey, problems were found with brown-colored and foul-smelling borehole water and suboptimal household waste management in the area. Through this activity, the Esa Unggul University community service team provided practical training on making simple sand-based water filtration devices and chlorine diffusers to improve drinking water quality, as well as how to process household waste into compost using environmentally friendly, appropriate technology.

This activity was carried out interactively through educational sessions, coaching, and direct training for posyandu cadres. Educational media such as leaflets and posters were also used to reinforce participants’ understanding of more hygienic water and waste management. This program succeeded in increasing the cadres’ knowledge, as seen from the significant difference between the pre-test and post-test conducted before and after the training.

Participants also successfully practiced independently making water filtration devices and processing waste into compost. This success is proof that the training provided can be directly applied in everyday life by the community. In addition, this activity resulted in publications in electronic mass media, as well as video documentation that can be accessed by the public as a source of information for a wider community.

The Rector of Universitas Esa Unggul, Dr. Ir. Arief Kusuma Among Praja, S.T., M.B.A., IPU, ASEAN Eng., expressed his high appreciation for the success of this activity.

“This community service activity reflects our commitment to continue providing real solutions for the community, especially in improving the quality of the environment. We believe that healthy and sustainable environmental management is an integral part of creating a productive and prosperous society,” said Dr. Arief Kusuma.

He added that this activity is in line with Esa Unggul University’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly point 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation, and point 3 – Good Health and Well-being.

“We are committed to continuing to support programs that can improve the quality of life of the community through education and training-based innovation. With this community-based approach, we hope to help the community to independently take better care of their environment,” he added.

Going forward, the Universitas Esa Unggul community service team will continue this program with further assistance to ensure the sustainability and development of clean water management and environmentally friendly household waste.
